AASA 14U ASA Western Nationals

Congratulations to our AASA 14U softball team, coached by Johnny Heinz. The 14s finished as Co-Champions with the Huntington Beach Breeze at the 2010 ASA Western National Championship in Fort Collins, Colorado, this past week, and earned a berth to the 2011 16U ASA Nationals.
The team was comprised of nine players that began playing together during the spring season plus two players picked up from our 12U team to replace injured players. The team got off to a slow start by losing their first pool play game to the OC Batbusters with a score of 5-1, but got on a roll when double elimination play started. They beat seven different Southern California teams to reach the finals, including both teams from the Artesia Punishers organization, the SoCal Pumas, The Next Level-Gold, Cal Lite, OC Batbusters and the Huntington Beach Breeze.
There were two pivotal moments in the tournament, when the girls came from behind in their last at-bat to beat the tournament favorite Batbusters 7-4, and when the girls recovered from a gut-wrenching, extra-inning loss in the Winners Bracket final to beat the Huntington Beach Breeze 1-0, and forced a final championship game. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate on Sunday evening and the final game was washed out at the start of the 5th inning with the scored tied at 4-4.
Congratulations to our 14U team for winning the ASA Western Nationals and for earning one of two berths to the 2011 Nationals by outplaying a 72-team field!
AASA 12U COE

During the week of July 19, 2010, the AASA 12U softball team participated in the Cat Osterman Experience, known also as the COE. This tournament/experience is designed to allow girls to have a Stay and Play experience. The COE outfitted them in home and away jerseys and scheduled them for seven pool play games over 3 days, leadering up to single day bracket elimination play. They had opening ceremonies that was hosted by Cat Osterman and her catcher at Texas and for USSSA pride, Megan Willis.
AASA placed in the finals of two events, and took home the trophy in the TEAM event - Around the Horn with a time of 15.51 seconds. Having won 6 and tied one in pool play against many teams across the United States, they were placed 2nd out of 25 in Gold Bracket play. They won the championship game against the Alabama Thundercats with a score of 4-1. The event was an amazing experience for the girls to meet others and bond as a team, in a way that hasn't been afforded to girls' softball in the past. It was an experience they and the parents will remember forever and we would like to thank the COE for recognizing girls' softball and giving them a chance to experience softball tournament play like no other.
